This scanned photo from a magazine is for honoring the "Papoea Vrijwilligers Korps" (PVK). This "Papua Volunteer's Corps", here proudly parading with their National flag, helped proudly the Dutch forces to defend their country against the "peloppers" (Indonesian) however, without result: the American leaders Robert and John Kennedy decided that the Dutch had to leave with the result an after-wards plundered and emptied country.

Het Papoea Vrijwilligers Korps (PVK) was een geheel uit Papoea's bestaand korps dat op 21 februari 1961 werd opgericht om bij te dragen aan de verdediging van Nederlands Nieuw-Guinea tegen de infiltratie van het Indonesische leger. De oprichting van het korps werd door de Nederlandse ministerraad in december 1959 goedgekeurd, en het korps moest fungeren als een semi-militaire politie. De PVK werd samengesteld uit Papoea's van verschillende volken, en stond onder commando van kolonel der mariniers W.A.van Heuven. Als embleem koos de PVK een kasuaris, het korpsdevies was Persevero (ik volhard). De PVK werd bewapend en uitgerust met een kaki-uniform, en een hoed waarvan de linker rand omhoog gevouwen was, en was getooid met het PVK embleem en een pluim. In 1961-1962 werd het PVK onder de toegenomen Indonesische dreiging sterk uitgebreid. Na de bestuursoverdracht aan de Verenigde Naties (UNTEA) en het daarop volgende Indonesische bestuur (1962-1963) werd de PVK ontbonden. De leden werden ontslagen. Sommigen traden later toe tot het Indonesische leger. Anderen, waaronder sergeant Ferry Awom, richtten een guerrillalegertje op, de Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM), en begonnen een strijd voor onafhankelijkheid tegen het Indonesische leger..

My name is Benny Wenda, I am a West Papuan independence leader and chairman of the Koteka Tribal Assembly. My village was bombed by Indonesia when I was a child and many of my family were killed. Later, I began to campaign peacefully to free my people. For this 'crime' I was arrested, tortured and threatened with death.
I managed to escape to Britain, where I now live in exile. Many of my people are still suffering. They have been killed, raped and tortured. Life is hard for them. All we are asking for is the freedoms that you enjoy every day - the freedom to speak your mind, to live without fear and to choose your own government.

"Mostly we will use the photos to put in Flickr account as you have seen and I saw you uploaded some? We need to see and look back to our history and the situation before Indonesia came here in our land through photos, books or videos. Education to young generations. We do not have library, books, all are banned by Indonesia."
